Tipperary Cup Match Group Match 11/4/2010
St Brendans..........1-06
Fulham Irish.........1-13
St.Brendan’s played Fulham Irish in the second round of the Tipperary cup on Sunday at a blustery Ruislip. Missing several first team members, St.Brendan’s started brightly as Brian Quinn found the net following some well worked interplay.
Brendan’s competed well around midfield with Joe Cush and Fergal Greenan winning ball. However, playing against the breeze, St.Brendan’s began to drift deeper to secure possession. Fulham continued to defend with purpose and securing more ball around the middle during the second quarter of the match, responded to Brendan’s three pointer with four points on the trot.
Further points were added to extend the lead through Harte and Bowles before, on the stroke of half time, a second goal was scored by Pikie, who shocked many of the watching crowd by getting his shot on target. The extra shooting practice at training starting to take effect.
Jarlath Harte knocked over a free kick before another four Fulham Irish points extended their lead. Harte found his range again from a free to leave a one score game at half time.
HT: Fulham Irish 0-8 St.Brendan’s 1-2
The second half began with both team joisting for possession. Disappointingly for St.Brendan’s, Fulham Irish were awarded a point which in fact was wide following some tenacious defending. Harte responded with two more points from frees, but with Brendan’s continuing to reduce the deficit, Fulham scored a fortunate goal as it appeared the St.Brendan’s defence had covered the danger.
Again, the Brendan’s’ responded with two points from the reliable boot of Harte. These though were the last scores for Brendan’s as Fulham began to gained possession around the middle and used the wide spaces of Ruislip to complete a deserved victory. None the less, it was a hard working team performance from the Brendan’s who can thank players such as Brian Close, Niall Clinton, Adrian Pierce and Ivan.
