St Brendan’s made their way to Ruislip on Sunday afternoon looking to show an improvement following defeat to Neasden last week. They welcomed back county players Killian Phair and Richie Ormsby, with the former kick starting the game with a pointed free. Playing into the breeze, Brendan’s continued to drive at the Tara ’s defence with a Jarlath Harte point and another from Phair. Tara’s responded with a couple of points to narrow the margin, but Brendan’s had the ball in the back of the Tara ’s net through Phair. At this stage however, Tara ’s grew more into the game and rattled of some impressive scores which included a sideline and a 45. Brendan’s could also look to more scores from the impressive Phair (0-2) and Joe Coulter.

Brendan’s wished to start the first half with power and pace, but Tara’s showed the initiative with two points to pull level and edged into the lead with a further two points. Brendan’s were finding it difficult to gain possession around the middle third of the field and when they lost the ball with players out of position, Tara’s neatly played the ball through their forward line to finish in the to the back of Rory Cullen’s net.
This was the spur for an impress Brendan’s come back. A point from the raiding Richie Ormsby followed by a Joe Coulter goal dragged a more competitive Brendan’s team back into the game. This was followed up later by a fine Joe Cush point and another from the boot of Ormsby. While Tara ’s responded with a couple of points, Brendan’s continued to turn the screw, with a goals from IP and Joe Coulter again.
A defensive mix up allowed Tara ’s to goal and more added points drew the within two. However, as they closed the gap to one point from a free, it proved to be the last kick of the match as Brendan’s ran out winners.
