League Division 1 13/6/2010

St Brendans..........2-11

Tara.................0-08

St Brendan’s had a fine victory at Ruislip on Sunday 13th June versus Taras in their Division 1 League match. St Brendan’s were first of the mark with Killian Phair splitting the posts as early as the second minute. Taras soon levelled before a surging run from the half back line resulted in Richie Ormsby smashing the ball into the back of the net to put 3 points between the teams. Chances were few in the remaining half due to a tight midfield battle with St Brendan’s winning a lot of breaking ball helped by the intelligent play of Shane O’Hare. There would only be 3 more points scored in the half which lasted 40 minutes due to stoppages and injuries.

HT: St Brendan’s 1-2 Tara 0-3

Playing against the breeze in the second half St Brendan’s came out strong and in the first 5 minutes scored 3 points from Paddy Bowles, Richie Ormsby and Killian Phair to put more daylight between the teams. However Taras responded by scoring 4 unanswered points and kept St Brendan’s scoreless for 15 minutes. The turning point The turning point in the game arrived when Brendan’s full back Barry Gallagher misread a long ball into the full forward line, leaving Paul McDermott one on one with only the keeper to beat. However, Coner Donlon got down low to smother McDermotts shot. All this happened before Killian Phair shone by scoring a goal and 3 points in a 9 minute blitz. Tempers started to boil and a few clashes saw Taras midfielder sent off with a few minutes remaining. However there was still time for corner back Adrian Pierce to charge up field and knock the ball over the bar.

It was a very good team performance, the defence limited Tara’s to very little scoring opportunities from play, midfield won a lot of ball and the forwards linked well to create chances.
